Annual dealer show marks beginning of the next chapter for Lexus: Dramatic evolution of L-Finesse design signals whole new direction
F-sport versions of CT and GS coming soon
(LAS VEGAS) – An exciting new chapter has begun for Lexus in Canada now that a major step forward has been taken in the evolution of the L-Finesse design philosophy – including the introduction of a head-turning new GS later this fall.
“This evolution of our L-Finesse design philosophy is dramatic,” Yoichi Tomihara, President and CEO of Lexus Canada, told Lexus dealers Thursday at the brand’s annual new vehicle introduction show in Las Vegas. “It signals a whole new direction for Lexus vehicles and for Lexus globally as we continue to strengthen the most innovative and premium progressive brand in the world.”
The new design philosophy is exemplified by the highly anticipated new GS, which is one of a number of new and revised Lexus vehicles to be rolled out between the fall of 2011 and the end of 2012.
“The GS is a true performance car, with a driving experience that’s passionate, pure and precise,” said Mr. Tomihara. “With a more expressive and dramatic form with a more distinctive look and bolder attitude, it resonates deeply in the heart of the Lexus Guest. It has a new aggressive front end with a distinctive spindle grille that sends a clear message: This is the new face of Lexus.”
The evolution of L-Finesse also features the introduction of the F-Sport performance line, which has styling cues that act like a magnifying glass, powerfully expanding the GS’s dynamic performance image. This line features the new CT200h F-Sport, as well as the all-new GS being complemented by an F-sport option.
The F-Sport line, as with all Lexus vehicles, is about power and performance, but with a foundation of quality. This is reflected in the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Initial Quality Study, where:
· Lexus ranked #1 overall amongst all nameplates, with the LS and ES taking the top two spots;
· Lexus ranked #1 in four individual segments, more than any other premium brand;
· The GX 460 and RX 350 were ranked first and second in the SUV category; and,
· The Canadian plant where the RX is built captured a Platinum Award for manufacturing.
In addition, Lexus has been gaining momentum through the growing popularity of the inspirational IS F luxury sport sedan and the first delivery in Canada of the LFA supercar. The introduction of the CT 200h, the world’s first luxury hybrid sportback was a runaway success, exceeding sales expectations in the first months alone and continuing to do so now that production levels have returned to 100 per cent. With the CT and LFA, Lexus has proven once again that it is the only manufacturer with the engineering skill and imagination capable of creating both the world’s sportiest hybrid and super-elite, high-performance supercar.
That standard of innovation will be enhanced now that a new Global Lexus Division has been established. This team combines engineering, design, and marketing in one unit, separate from any other group.
“It means a new generation of Lexus vehicles with leading-edge designs, exciting driving dynamics, and top-of-the-line advanced technologies, better tailored to our Guests and our market. It will better help us achieve our vision of Lexus being the pinnacle – the brand that comes to mind when people think luxury,” said Mr. Tomihara.
