Read all our Porsche Boxster and 718 Boxster reviews here. First released in 1996, the mid-engine Boxster is the first true roadster from Porsche since the 550 Spyder racer from the 1950s. Today, the all-new Boxster for 2017 is dubbed the Porsche 718 Boxster. Check back for more reviews.
The original Boxster first released in late 1996 was influenced by the 1992 Boxster Concept. A 2.5L flat six-cylinder powered two-seater, the Boxster got an upgraded 2.7L engine in 2000 alongside the introduction of the 3.2L Boxster S with both models seeing some performance and styling upgrades three years later in 2003. 2005 saw the arrival the of second-generation Carrera GT-inspired Boxster dubbed the 987 replacing the outgoing 986 – boasting more power and slightly better styling. Finally, and fortunately, the third and current generation 981 Boxster launched at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show was blessed styling more inline with its more iconic 911 older sibling – less watered-down ‘affordable’ Porsche-looking and more confident with styling and power to match.
As of 2017, the all-new model will be called the 718 Boxster.
